First public confession
Ukrainian journalist and TV presenter Oleksiy Sukhanov has spoken openly about his stroke for the first time. The 52-year-old man shared this in an interview on the Okay Eva YouTube channel.
According to Sukhanov, he currently feels relatively stable, although the consequences of the illness periodically make themselves known.
Consequences and rehabilitation
The presenter noted that he underwent a course of rehabilitation in the summer. He is now able to move his fingers normally, but he sometimes encounters difficulties when choosing words. Sukhanov admitted that due to the consequences of the stroke he suffered, he sometimes forgets individual words.
«Оговтався – то й оговтався. У мене реабілітація була» ("I recovered – so I recovered. I had rehabilitation"), the TV presenter stated.
The journalist declined to describe his experience in detail, explaining that against the backdrop of the trauma Ukrainians suffer during the war, he feels uncomfortable drawing attention to his own condition.
“Silent enemy”
In addition to the stroke, Oleksiy Sukhanov has another health problem – diabetes. He learned about this condition only five years after it developed.
«Цукровий діабет – це такий тихий ворог, який тебе починає руйнувати зсередини» ("Diabetes is such a silent enemy that starts destroying you from within"), the journalist explained.
The presenter warned that this disease is dangerous due to possible complications that can affect various organs and systems. Among the serious consequences, he named stroke, heart attack, vascular damage, loss of vision, and even limb amputation.
General stress
Sukhanov emphasised the importance of regular health monitoring and a careful attitude towards one's body. He drew attention to the fact that Ukrainians are constantly under stress due to the war, and prolonged nervous tension plays a significant role in the spread of health problems.
The TV presenter presented his story as a reminder of the need for timely detection of diseases.
