Cargo seizure at the border

On 4 October 2026, customs inspectors at the Isakcha border checkpoint stopped a truck leaving Romanian territory for inspection. The vehicle was travelling along the route China – Constanta – Isakcha – Odesa.

Discovery of counterfeits

During the inspection of the cargo, 1,280 pairs of footwear were found bearing the symbols of registered and protected trademarks. Such products infringe intellectual property rights. According to estimates, if these goods had been sold on the market as originals, their value would have reached approximately 4.9 million lei, equivalent to over 900,000 euros.

Further actions and comments

All seized goods have been detained until the authenticity of the items is established and appropriate measures prescribed by current legislation are taken.

The Romanian customs service states that it continues to conduct inspections and cooperate with authorised bodies to protect consumers, rights holders, and the legal market.

It is worth noting that Romanian customs officers frequently seize goods destined for Ukraine that infringe intellectual property rights. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, such cargo often passes through without hindrance, and cases on the Odesa route are not isolated.
