Investigators in Lviv have established the involvement of a 19-year-old man in the damage caused by the arson of two vehicles bearing military symbols or Armed Forces of Ukraine identification marks. The suspect, a native of Chernivtsi Oblast, was temporarily residing in Lviv. In late August, he was looking for additional income on the Telegram messenger, where he was offered to carry out a series of criminal acts for a reward of $3,000.
According to investigation data, the client demanded that he find vehicles in the city bearing military symbols or Armed Forces of Ukraine identification marks. The first target was a Mercedes-Benz Vito with a military number plate. On 26 August, near Masaryk Street, the suspect photographed the car, recorded a video, and sent these materials to the client to obtain permission to act.
After receiving approval, the young man purchased fuel at a gas station, returned to the target, poured petrol over the windscreen, and set it alight with a lighter. To confirm the completion of the task, he again recorded the process on video.
The following night, according to the investigation, a second vehicle was set on fire — a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on Ohirkova Street. This car also had stickers and symbols of Armed Forces of Ukraine units on its body. This time, the offender poured a pre-prepared flammable substance into the vehicle's air intake and set it alight. After the fire caught, the suspect fled.
As reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the 19-year-old citizen was informed of the suspicion. He is charged with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, as well as intentional damage to property by arson. The actions have been qualified under Part 1 of Article 114-1 and Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
