Vilnius's reaction to Brussels's decision

Lithuania has introduced a national asset freeze on Russian billionaires Mikhail Friedman and Alisher Usmanov. This decision was a response to the exclusion of these two businessmen from the European Union's sanctions list.

The information was released by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys on his page on the social network X (Twitter).

The position of the Lithuanian government

According to the head of the foreign affairs department, the removal of Friedman and Usmanov from EU sanctions sent the wrong signal. Budrys emphasised that his country would not ignore this situation.

“Lithuania is taking action and will not turn a blind eye to this. Today we have frozen the assets of Mikhail Friedman and Alisher Usmanov within the framework of our national sanctions regime,” the minister stated.

Increasing pressure on the Russian Federation

The official also underlined the need to constantly maintain and intensify sanctions pressure on Russia, as well as on individuals who facilitate its conduct of the war.

It is worth noting that earlier reports emerged stating that from 25 September, Lithuania had begun applying national sanctions against Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Friedman.
