Joint investigation of the incident

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda informed that a joint working group has been established to determine the causes of the drone explosion in the territory of the Pasvalys district. It includes representatives from the Ministries of Defence of Lithuania and Poland.

The head of state announced this information on Tuesday, 20 October, during a conversation with LRT journalists.

Awaiting official conclusions

Nauseda emphasised that the details of the event will only become known after the inspection is completed. In his words, only then will the parties be able to discuss what specifically happened on the day of the incident.

«Щойно будуть оприлюднені офіційні висновки цього розслідування, ми зможемо обговорити, що саме сталося того дня» (As soon as the official conclusions of this investigation are published, we will be able to discuss what exactly happened that day), noted the President of Lithuania.

Context of events

It is worth noting that on the night of 17 to 18 October, Ukraine carried out a strike using unmanned aerial vehicles on targets in Saint Petersburg and its adjacent areas.
