Pledge to end financial support

Marine Le Pen, who is currently leading the polls ahead of the presidential elections in France, has publicly promised to stop providing financial aid to Ukraine and to actively oppose Kyiv's accession to the European Union. This was reported by the Financial Times.

According to the politician, if she wins the election, France will reduce its involvement in supporting Ukraine to a minimum. She stated that the country would only be able to provide limited operational assistance and training for Ukrainian troops. Le Pen emphasised that France is no longer able to bear significant costs for funding Kyiv.

Threat to block the EU budget

In addition to reducing direct aid, Marine Le Pen threatened to block the adoption of the European Union's new seven-year budget. This document provides for the allocation of up to €100 billion to support Ukraine. To carry out her threat, the candidate plans to withhold payment of half of France's contribution to the Union's budget.

EU accession as "seppuku" for France

Commenting on the prospects of Ukraine's integration into the European Union, Le Pen described the process as equivalent to "seppuku" for France. She justified her position by citing the risks of losing national sovereignty and potential significant economic losses for the French state.
