Internet provider KIEVNET has recorded a technical fault affecting the operation of its DNS servers. As a result, some subscribers experienced difficulties opening web pages, although the communication channel with the network may have remained active. The company's technical services have already begun working to eliminate the failure and plan to restore normal service operation in the near future.
Causes of network access problems
The Domain Name System (DNS) performs a critical function: it translates user-friendly website names into digital IP addresses used for connection. When this system fails, a browser may be unable to find the required site, even if the physical internet connection is working flawlessly.
KIEVNET representatives confirmed that they are working to restore services. However, the company has not published detailed information regarding the root causes of the fault, the number of affected clients, or the exact time when all services will be fully operational.
Experts note that if web pages do not open via a fixed-line connection but are accessible via mobile internet, this indicates possible issues specifically with DNS settings or other network parameters on the provider's side.
Recommendations for users
While technical specialists are resolving the failure, subscribers can try to solve the problem independently by taking the following steps:
- Restart the browser and router.
- Clear the DNS cache on your device. For Windows users, this can be done by entering the command ipconfig /flushdns in the command line.
- Temporarily replace the standard DNS servers with public alternatives in the device or router settings. Common options include Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and Cloudflare (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1).
It is worth noting that changing DNS parameters is not a guarantee of resolution if the fault involves other elements of the network infrastructure. If connection problems persist, it is recommended to contact technical support.
KIEVNET's official website has published numbers for 24/7 communication with support: 044 498 11 77, 067 498 11 77, 093 498 11 77, and 099 498 11 77.
Previously, in September, KIEVNET reported damage to telecommunications infrastructure as a result of Russian attacks. At that time, similar problems were also reported by Datagroup, UTELS, Pavutyna, Cityhost, and MiroHost. There is currently no confirmation that the current DNS server failure is linked to those damages.
As previously reported, the situation with electricity supply in Kyiv has been stabilised: emergency power outages have been cancelled.
