When crossing the Polish border, foreigners must be prepared for a check of their financial status. Border authorities have the authority to determine whether a traveller has sufficient resources to cover expenses for the entire period of stay in the country, as well as for the return home.
According to data from the official government portal of the Republic of Poland, every foreigner entering the state's territory must be ready to confirm the availability of sufficient financial means to cover expenses during their stay in the country.
The specific amounts that must be carried are determined by the duration of the planned trip. The following standards apply:
Polish legislation does not limit travellers to cash only. An equivalent of the established amount in any foreign currency is acceptable. In some cases, financial capacity can be confirmed by other documents, including bank documents, a certificate of credit limit availability, or a traveller's cheque.
The issue of financing the return is regulated separately. If a traveller does not have a purchased return ticket, they must prove that they have an amount sufficient for the return journey. For citizens arriving from states bordering Poland, the minimum estimated size of such an amount is 200 zloty. An alternative to having cash for this case can be an already purchased return ticket.
In the event that a foreigner does not meet the established entry conditions, the border service has the right to refuse them entry across the border.
It is worth noting that the basic documents for the entry of Ukrainian citizens into Poland are a valid foreign passport and confirmation of the legality of stay or the availability of unused visa-free days. In special situations, border guards may also check for the presence of medical insurance and a sufficient amount of money.
