Low value of electric car in documents

The declaration documents of Roman Kornev, former head of the State Tax Service in Mykolaiv region, and his family record a number of assets whose value requires clarification. In particular, in April 2023, the official purchased a 2022-model electric Volkswagen ID.4 Crozz crossover. The value of the vehicle stated in the official documents is only 150,000 hryvnias. Such a price for an electric crossover appears atypical and raises questions about the circumstances of the deal.

Expensive jewellery owned by wife

In addition to the vehicle, the declarations record significant expenses on valuables. In December 2022, the official's wife, Iryna Korneva, became the owner of a piece of jewellery from the Cartier brand. It is a Juste un Clou model necklace, for which 592,411 hryvnias were paid. The collection name translates from French as "Just a Nail".

In addition, among the valuables belonging to Iryna Korneva, a Rolex Daytona watch is mentioned. These purchases took place against the backdrop of a general fundraising campaign for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and austerity, highlighting the contrast between public processes and the personal financial decisions of the then-head of the tax service.

Total family income and assets

According to 2023 data, the Kornevs' total family income exceeds 6 million hryvnias. The majority of these funds are received by Iryna Korneva from entrepreneurial activity. Among the assets, a residential house of 237 square metres and significant savings in foreign currency are also noted.

Position on possible violations

According to a source, receiving million-hryvnia income from business and buying expensive jewellery are not in themselves signs of a law violation. At the same time, the declared value of the Volkswagen ID.4 Crozz at 150,000 hryvnias deserves separate attention from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) to clarify under what conditions the car purchase deal was concluded.

Previously, analysts had researched the value of elite watches in the declarations of Ukrainian politicians and businessmen, comparing declared amounts with market prices for Rolex, Patek Philippe and Richard Mille models.
