Public reaction to the regional council's decision

According to data from a poll conducted for Radio NV, the majority of Ukrainians do not support the decision of the Lviv Oblast Council. The document provides for declaring 2027 the year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), as well as the years of Roman Shukhevych and Oleg Olzhych.

The study showed that 54.3% of respondents agree with the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, which previously expressed criticism of this decision by the local parliament. Meanwhile, 26.6% of those polled approve of the Lviv Oblast Council's initiative. A further 19.1% of poll participants could not make up their minds.

Impact on relations with Poland

The Lviv Oblast Council's initiative caused a stir in bilateral relations between Ukraine and Poland. It gained prominence against the backdrop of historical disputes between the two countries, particularly regarding the Volhynia tragedy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that such decisions do not contribute to strengthening mutual understanding between the two countries.
