Ukrainians conceded to Hungary despite game superiority
The Ukraine national team suffered a 1-2 defeat against the Hungary team. Following the end of the match, the head coach of the Ukrainian side, Andrea Maldera, analysed the course of events and pointed to the causes of the failure.
According to the Italian coach, his players demonstrated a high level of play, but in the decisive seconds, they lacked experience and leadership qualities on the football pitch.
Dominance in the first half
Maldera emphasised that for the majority of the match, Ukraine had a tactical advantage over their opponents. The Hungarians created virtually no real threats to the Ukraine national team's goal in the first half of the game.
(I believe we played a wonderful first half. I do not remember the Hungarian national team taking a single shot in the first half. Of course, we pushed forward and we have players who may not be used to playing with such high intensity. And perhaps in the last 8-10 minutes of the first half we slowed down, but we still dominated the game), the coach said.
The specialist added that this dynamic persisted after the break: «І це також підтвердилося в другому таймі. (And this was also confirmed in the second half. We had possession of the ball and controlled the game).
Experience problem in key moments
According to Maldera, the main reason for the defeat lies not in tactical or technical errors, but in the lack of experience at the turning point of the encounter.
(I believe we lacked experience in those minutes when we equalised. I mean, this moment is not a matter of tactics or technique. In such moments, you need to have a leader on the pitch who can take control in those minutes), the Italian explained.
The coach also drew attention to squad issues that significantly affected the team's lineup: «Стосовно відсутності гравців, то так, у нас фактично ціла команда була відсутня. (Regarding the absence of players, yes, we were practically missing an entire team. But I am satisfied with the players who played today).
Positive conclusion regarding youth
Despite the negative result, Andrea Maldera highlighted the performance of young footballers who were given the opportunity to show their worth.
(We saw many young players who can be a valuable resource for our team. Krupskyi, Ponomarenko, Krasnopir — they all played a very good match today), the head coach of the Ukraine national team concluded.
