Zelensky and Trump to meet after inauguration

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tikhyy stated the possibility of a soon-to-happen meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the new US leader Donald Trump. It may take place as early as after the inauguration of the American president, scheduled for 20 January.

Preparation for negotiations

Tikhyy emphasised that Ukraine is actively preparing for high-level negotiations with the United States.

«Наша позиция предельно ясна: вся страна стремится к справедливому завершению войны. Мы видим, что президент Трамп также нацелен на прекращение конфликта. Поэтому ключевым шагом сейчас является организация встречи между нашими лидерами» (Our position is absolutely clear: the whole country strives for a just end to the war. We see that President Trump is also focused on ending the conflict. Therefore, the key step now is to organise a meeting between our leaders), he stated.

Significance of contact

The spokesperson noted that contacts at this level play a decisive role in strengthening cooperation between the countries and finding ways to end the military conflict. According to him, expectations for the upcoming meeting remain high.
