Tibet earthquake death toll rises

At least 126 people have died and 188 others have been injured as a result of a powerful earthquake that struck a remote region of Tibet on Tuesday morning, CCTV and CNN report.

The disaster has caused significant damage, with more than 3,600 homes destroyed. The epicentre of the earthquake was located in Tingri County, situated on the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau near the border with Nepal, approximately 80 km north of the summit of Mount Everest. The tremors were even felt in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.

Rescue services are continuing their operations in the disaster area. More than 400 people have been pulled from the rubble. In addition, more than 30,000 residents have been evacuated to safe areas.
