According to Wall Street Journal data, 22% of Harvard Business School MBA graduates were unemployed in 2024, double the figure from two years prior, when the rate stood at just 10%.

Journalists highlight several factors contributing to this sharp decline in employment:

  1. The impact of artificial intelligence. Technological innovations, including the adoption of AI, are significantly reshaping the labour market. This leads to a reduction in job openings and a decreased demand for traditional human resources.

  2. Diminishing value of an MBA. With the growth of online education and widespread access to courses and lectures, many people are increasingly favouring self-education, viewing it as more effective and cost-efficient. Consequently, traditional business education is losing its appeal.

  3. The role of networking. Employers are increasingly selecting candidates based on personal recommendations and connections rather than formal degrees and experience, which also diminishes the significance of traditional education.

These trends indicate fundamental changes in the labour market, calling into question established educational models that were previously considered a guarantee of professional success.
