Volunteer Mitrohin may have moved $70m abroad

Zaporizhzhia-based entrepreneur Oleg Mitrohin, owner of the companies MIK and Yughstal, actively positions himself as a volunteer assisting Ukrainian defenders. 

However, accusations related to his business activities have recently emerged in the public domain. According to StopKor analysts, Mitrohin allegedly plans to move $70 million in illicit funds abroad through a Bulgarian shell company registered in the name of his mother-in-law, Lyudmila Hohenko.

The shell company and its family links

According to open-source information, Hohenko registered two companies in Bulgaria — VIKTOR INVEST and PRESS EFFECT. In 2023, she was registered at an elite mansion near Kyiv, which adds an element of mystery to these connections. Notably, Lyudmila Hohenko is Oleg Mitrohin’s mother-in-law.

Contracts with the Ministry of Defence: not all is simple

Mitrohin and his companies have actively cooperated with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, supplying military uniforms since 2014. However, questions regarding their tender wins have only recently arisen. For instance, in 2025, the company MIK won seven procurement contracts worth UAH 407.6 million, but there are suspicions that these contracts may have been obtained by bypassing legal procedures.

Scandalous tenders and complaints

One such tender was for the procurement of covers for combat helmets, where nine companies bid for the contract, but Mitrohin’s company ultimately won, despite not being a manufacturer of this product. Moreover, the company that could have won the contract, PAKOPTTORG, proved to be exceptionally unsuccessful, as it has never won a tender in its entire history.

Another notable case was the tender for the supply of winter jackets. In the final round, only two companies remained — MIK and PAKOPTTORG — and Mitrohin’s company won again. Interestingly, PAKOPTTORG was registered in 2024 and has a charter capital of only UAH 10,000.

Family ties and a luxurious lifestyle

It is noteworthy that Artem Mitrohin, the businessman’s son, serves as the director of several companies and as an assistant to People’s Deputy Hennadii Kasai. This cooperation has also been marred by scandals. Furthermore, the Mitrohin family owns several expensive real estate properties and land, while Oleg’s wife, Alina Mitrohin, does not hide her luxurious lifestyle, regularly posting from expensive resorts.

Ministry of Defence: not all is straightforward

According to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the company MIK did indeed conclude contracts with the ministry, but complaints regarding product quality and delivery deadlines were minimal. However, it should be noted that questions regarding product quality and prices remain open.

Investigation findings and analyst inquiries

StopKor analysts sent inquiries to the Ministry of Defence and other competent authorities requesting clarification on the activities of Oleg Mitrohin and his companies. Responses from the Ministry of Defence confirmed that all contracts were fulfilled, but did not specify details regarding product quality or the existence of additional issues.
