Explosion in central Chișinău

Today, 9 January, an explosion occurred in central Chișinău. The incident took place in one of the buildings located near the central market.

As a result of the explosion, at least 20 people were hospitalised in city hospitals, four of whom are in a serious condition.

According to the press secretary of the Emergency Situations Service of the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs, the explosion most likely occurred due to the careless handling of a gas cylinder in one of the food service establishments.

At present, people have been evacuated from the scene and nearby shops, and the area has been cordoned off by the police. Rescue workers and 10 ambulance crews are operating at the scene.
