Mass firings of FBI staff expected in the US

Mass firings are expected among FBI staff who were involved in the investigation of the 6 January 2021 Capitol attack and cases related to Donald Trump.

According to CNN, citing sources, the acting leadership of the Department of Justice has been compiling lists of employees over the past week who, in the view of the former president's circle, acted with bias. As a result, many agents and analysts have been offered the opportunity to voluntarily leave their posts, failing which they face dismissal.

According to published data, Acting Attorney General James McHenry sent notifications to a number of staff members, emphasising that their continued presence in the bureau is incompatible with the implementation of the new administration's priorities.

According to CNN sources, at least six senior FBI officials have already received orders to resign or to cease work immediately.
