Painting believed to be by Van Gogh found in US
A painting that experts believe to be a work by Vincent van Gogh was discovered at a garage sale in the US.
The oil on canvas depicts an elderly fisherman with a grey beard and a pipe. The signature “Элимар” (Elmar) is visible in the bottom corner of the painting. Specialists at research firm LMI suggest the canvas was created in 1889, when the artist was staying in a psychiatric clinic in southern France. Their conclusion is based on a detailed analysis of the canvas structure, pigment composition, and other artistic features.
Despite the research conducted, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has not yet confirmed the work as being by the famous master.
