Odesa airport blocks attempt to smuggle nearly 60kg of amber in suitcase

An attempt to smuggle amber was thwarted overnight at Odesa airport. A middle-aged woman flying to Istanbul tried to take 59 kilograms of unprocessed amber in a suitcase.

The luggage had been pre-wrapped in plastic film. However, this did not prevent airport staff from demanding the suitcase be opened after scanning.

The approximate value of the contraband  - 9 million hryvnia.

The undeclared amber was seized and attached to the case. The woman was released, having been issued an administrative fine of 1,700 hryvnia.

During the confiscation, Yulia Marushevskaya arrived at the airport.
