Spanish hotel worker poisoned tourists

A Spanish hotel employee has been charged with attempting to poison guests and colleagues with chemical substances, which, according to the investigation, was her method of revenge for the non-renewal of her employment contract. 

The incident, which took place on 31 May 2023, came to light following a report in The Mirror.

Suspicious behaviour and initial complaints

Hotel guests noticed a 50-year-old woman, working as a waitress, adding a yellowish liquid to dishes intended for the "buffet". Among the spoiled items were fruits and yogurts displayed in a glass showcase. After guests complained, the hotel administration informed the police and demanded an explanation from the suspect, who categorically denied the accusations.

Investigation and evidence

At the scene, police seized two bottles of chemical cleaning agents for dishwashers. Tests confirmed the presence of chemicals in the spoiled products.

The Spanish prosecution classified the defendant's actions as intentional poisoning, as stipulated in Article 365 of the Penal Code. She faces a prison sentence of two to six years.

Repeat incident and aggravation of the situation

Investigators established that a few days earlier, on 26 May 2023, the woman had also added bleach to a bottle of milk used by her colleagues. This episode has also been included in the pre-trial indictment.

The hotel administration and security services are actively assisting the investigation by providing additional information and surveillance camera footage. A decision in the case is expected soon.
