Odesa IT worker awarded UAH 800,000 contract
A story is unfolding in Odesa that raises numerous questions. The major renovation of one of the rehabilitation centres, valued at nearly 800,000 hryvnia, was decided to be entrusted to a private entrepreneur without conducting an open tender.
The selected contractor was 26-year-old Yaroslav Verba — a sole proprietor who previously worked in the IT sector and had no documented experience in construction or renovation work. Despite this, he was trusted with the execution of the complex major renovation, for which only two months were allocated.
The entrepreneur's family background also draws particular attention. Yaroslav Verba's father heads the public organisation "Dance Club 'Themis'" and previously ran for public office as a candidate of Oleh Lyashko's Radical Party.
Why officials chose a sole proprietor without relevant experience, and why the renovation was decided to be carried out without a competitive procedure, remains an open question and is sparking active discussion in the local community.
