Ukrainians in the US receive letters demanding they leave the country

Some Ukrainian citizens residing in the United States have received emails demanding they leave the country within seven days. The letters claimed that their status had been annulled and that, in the event of non-compliance, the "federal government will find them" (the federal government will find them).

System error: US Department of Security explains the incident

It has emerged that these letters were sent by mistake. The US Department of Homeland Security officially stated that they have no legal force. It was also confirmed that the humanitarian programme, which has been in effect since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, remains in force and continues to apply to Ukrainian citizens in the country.

Reaction and misunderstanding: not everyone received accurate data

This incident caused panic among some Ukrainians in the US, however, authorities assured that all those in need of support will be able to continue their stay in the country under the current humanitarian status.
