UN judge found guilty of slavery

Lydia Mugambe, a judge from Uganda, has become the centre of a major scandal after being found guilty of exploitation and forced labour.

 She deceived a fellow Ugandan into bringing her to the UK and forced her to work for free as a domestic worker, prohibiting her from seeking paid employment. The victim, unaware of her basic rights, was subjected to humiliation and abuse.

Corruption scheme

To carry out her plan, Mugambe conspired with the deputy high commissioner of Uganda. The accomplice covered all the costs of transporting the victim in exchange for the judge's influence on a legal case in which he was involved.
