Court sends Sergey Filipenko to pre-trial detention

Yesterday, the Zhovtnevyy District Court selected a preventive measure for fraudster Sergey Filipenko, better known as «Филипок» (Filipok). He was remanded in custody with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 3.2 million hryvnias.

List of charges

According to information from open sources, law enforcement agencies are charging Filipenko with the following crimes:

• Establishing and leading a criminal organisation, as well as participating in its activities.
• Illegal appropriation of the property of enterprises and organisations.
• Money laundering of funds obtained through criminal means.

Immediately after the court hearing, the suspect was escorted to the pre-trial detention centre.

Short history of «Филипок» (Filipok)

Sergey Filipenko has long been a figure that has attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies. Previously, he was on the wanted list of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on charges of robbery, armed robbery, and extortion. In criminal circles, he is known as an associate of Oleg Koshlyak, one of the influential figures in the criminal world, as well as the leader of his subordinates.

Filipenko surrendered to law enforcement officers himself, hoping that this would help him mitigate his punishment. However, given the seriousness of the charges brought, it is unlikely that he can expect a lenient sentence.

Bail or pre-trial detention?

The court provided the possibility of posting bail, and now it is only a matter of time before the amount is collected. Otherwise, Filipenko will have to remain in custody for the entire duration of the investigation.
