Sergey Shnurov explains why he switched to writing songs for women

Not long ago, the band Leningrad released a new humorous composition titled Exhibit, which provoked a mixed reaction among fans. Many are puzzled as to why the provocative collective changed its style. The band's leader, Sergey Shnurov, decided to clarify the situation. On his online page, the artist explained why he started writing songs for women.

«Попытаюсь коротко объяснить, почему это я вдруг стал писать женские песни. Еще совсем недавно мужской подводный мир был большим и многообразным. В нем водились спившиеся интеллигенты, жизнелюбивые тунеядцы по призванию, технические романтики, философствующие слесари человеческих душ, обаятельные прохиндеи, честные авантюристы и множество всяких диковинных, необыкновенных субъектов. С ними было очень занятно. (I will try to briefly explain why I suddenly started writing songs for women. Until very recently, the male underwater world was vast and diverse. It was home to drunk intellectuals, life-loving professional idlers, technical romantics, philosophising fitters of human souls, charming scoundrels, honest adventurers, and a multitude of other peculiar, extraordinary subjects. It was very entertaining with them.)

Но потом они вымерли. Из этого мира, к моему глубочайшему сожалению, исчезла сложность. Там еще встречаются редкие экземпляры, но в широком смысле мужская фауна перестала представлять исследовательский интерес. Здесь всё свелось к около политическим спорам, которые можно обобщить и выразить одной единственной фразой - "они п***сы, а мы нет", причем "п***сы" заявляют то же самое. Вот и вся песня. Rare specimens can still be found there, but in a broad sense, the male fauna has ceased to be of research interest. Everything here has been reduced to quasi-political disputes, which can be generalised and expressed in a single phrase - "they are f***ing idiots, and we are not," while the "f***ing idiots" claim the same thing. That is the whole song.)

Женский же мир за это время усложнился и стал многообразен настолько, что все культурно значимые процессы перетекли в него. Более того, женский подводный мир стал диктовать стилистическую повестку дня. Женщины исподволь стали основными заказчиками и двигателями экономики, и не только. Можно заметить, что с поэтической точки зрения, они стали еще сложней и интересней. Но я не теряю надежды на то, что и в мужской мир вернется настоящая, а не костюмированная диковинка и чудинка, лишенная беспросветной простоты (The female world, meanwhile, has become more complex and diverse to such an extent that all culturally significant processes have shifted into it. Moreover, the female underwater world has begun to dictate the stylistic agenda. Women have quietly become the main clients and drivers of the economy, and not only that. It can be observed that from a poetic point of view, they have become even more complex and interesting. But I do not lose hope that the male world will also see the return of genuine, not costumed, peculiarities and oddities, devoid of hopeless simplicity)», - wrote Sergey Shnurov.
