The El Salvadoran Congress has officially revoked Bitcoin's status as legal tender. The cryptocurrency will no longer be considered "currency", and its use will change from mandatory to voluntary. Bitcoin will not be used for tax payments.

El Salvador has signed a credit agreement with the International Monetary Fund and will reduce government involvement in Bitcoin-related projects.
