US extends temporary protection programme

The administration of President Joe Biden has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) programme for refugees, The New York Times reports.

The list of countries whose citizens are eligible for the programme includes Ukraine, Venezuela, Sudan and other states.

Refugees included in the programme will be able to remain in the US with work authorisation and protection from deportation until 2026.
