SBU launches hunt for amber buyers

Thanks to the media resonance created, law enforcement agencies have finally decided to tackle buyers and miners of amber. Today, the Security Service of Ukraine reported conducting a search at a stone buyer's premises, as well as detaining his miners, along with all their equipment.

“Міжвідомча група співробітників Служби безпеки України, міліції та прокуратури провела обшук у домогосподарстві мешканця смт. Олевськ, який закуповував бурштин оптом. (An interdepartmental group of Security Service of Ukraine, police, and prosecution officials conducted a search at the household of a resident of Olevsk urban-type settlement who purchased amber in bulk.)

Під час обшуку правоохоронці вилучили 23 кг «сонячного каменю» та 230 тисяч доларів США, а також знаряддя для прийому-скупки бурштину. (During the search, law enforcement officers seized 23 kg of the 'sun stone' and 230,000 US dollars, as well as tools for receiving and buying amber.)

Крім того, у ході нічного рейду поблизу одного із сіл Олевського району міжвідомча група затримала бригаду «старателів» під час незаконного видобутку бурштину. У зловмисників вилучено водяну мотопомпу, пожежні рукави, металеві трубки та сачки, інше знаряддя для вимивання бурштину. (In addition, during a night raid near one of the villages in Olevskyi district, the interdepartmental group detained a crew of 'staretsi' (illegal miners) while they were illegally extracting amber. From the offenders, a water motor pump, fire hoses, metal pipes and nets, and other tools for washing out amber were seized.)
