Proxy war between nuclear powers

Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterised the current situation in Ukraine as a proxy war between the two largest nuclear powers — the US and Russia. In a Fox News broadcast, he emphasised that the war, in which the US actively supports Ukraine while Russia conducts military operations, must be ended. According to Rubio, conflicts between nuclear powers can have serious consequences for global security, and the continuation of such a war cannot be justified.

Criticism of Ukraine’s and Europe’s strategy

Rubio also voiced criticism of Ukraine and its European allies for the lack of a clear plan to end the military operations. He noted that, at present, there is no clear strategy for resolving the conflict. Instead, in his view, the Ukrainian side and its partners are simply continuing to provide resources and assistance without having a final goal or a path to peace.

"The plan of Ukraine and its allies is to continue supporting them as long as necessary, without a strategy for the future", he stated. Rubio noted that such an approach cannot be considered a full-fledged strategy and does not lead to a resolution of the problem.
