Ryazan refinery operations suspended

Following two Ukrainian drone attacks, operations at the Ryazan Oil Refinery (Ryazan NPP) in Russia have been suspended. The drone strikes caused a fire in the facility's oil storage tanks.

Reuters reports this, citing informed sources. Additionally, the railway loading platform and the hydrocracking unit, designed to remove impurities from petroleum products, were damaged.

According to one source, damage to the railway equipment led to a halt in rail loading, which in turn caused the suspension of oil refining. Another source confirmed that shipments had been suspended since 24 January, when the plant was unable to continue shipping petroleum products.

In 2024, the Ryazan NPP processed 13.1 million tonnes of oil, accounting for approximately 5% of total refining volume in Russia. The plant produced 2.2 million tonnes of petrol, 3.4 million tonnes of diesel fuel, 4.3 million tonnes of fuel oil, and 1 million tonnes of aviation fuel.
