Transnistria accuses Moldova of blocking gas purchases

The leader of unrecognised Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, stated that it is impossible to purchase gas without the approval of the Moldovan authorities.

 According to him, the problem does not lie in financial difficulties, but in the fact that the companies responsible for fuel procurement are registered on the territory of Moldova.

He noted that Chisinau has blocked the accounts of Transnistrian companies, which has effectively paralysed their ability to purchase gas. "Из-за этого мы не можем обеспечить регион топливом. Это серьёзный экономический и политический удар" (Because of this, we cannot supply the region with fuel. This is a serious economic and political blow), he stated.

In addition, the head of the region emphasised that the account freeze has severely undermined the economy. "Это форма давления, которая ставит под угрозу основные аспекты нашей жизнедеятельности. " (This is a form of pressure that threatens the basic aspects of our livelihood. 

We have been deprived of the ability to purchase not only gas, but also other vital resources", he added.

The Moldovan side has so far refrained from commenting on the matter.
