Nearly half of sanctioned vessels had been transporting oil

Approximately 40% of vessels subject to US sanctions had previously been involved in transporting Russian oil to India, according to information from industry research companies Lloyds List Intelligence and Kpler.

This incident has prompted Indian officials to seek new sources for oil supplies. According to sources, the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already begun negotiations with several Middle Eastern countries with which India maintains close ties and from which it imports oil.

These countries include the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman, which could become new oil suppliers for India.
