Parliament grants consent to arrest three judges

After a brief delay, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine finally moved from words to action and began considering the lifting of immunity for certain judges, so that law enforcement agencies would subsequently be able to hold them criminally liable.

 

The people's deputies heard the head of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, who supported the Prosecutor General's Office's proposal for consent to the detention and arrest of judges of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv - Kitsiuk V.P., Tsarevych O.I., Vovk S.V.

 

As well as the judges themselves, Kitsiuk V.P. and Tsarevych O.I. Judge Tsarevych, during her speech, publicly stated that pressure was exerted on her during the consideration of the Efremov case and called on the deputies to abide by the law.

 

As expected, the opposition bloc spoke against the lifting of immunity. The coalition, however, was practically unanimous in support, although many raised the question of why so few judges are being held accountable.

 

Thus, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine granted consent to the arrest and detention of the aforementioned judges of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv. Almost 300 people's deputies voted in favour.
