Can a person's location be determined via their phone
One of the most common queries in Ukrainian search engines is: "як по номеру телефону знайти місцезнаходження людини" (how to find a person's location by phone number). In reality, this is a highly relevant issue.
Every year, a vast number of people go missing in major urban areas. Given that virtually everyone has a mobile phone today, it would be entirely possible to locate a person or the device itself using its number.
This is achieved using data from cell towers. As a mobile phone moves, its data is recorded by the network equipment. Consequently, the location can be pinpointed to within a few metres, which is more than sufficient for search purposes.
However, mobile networks refuse to share such data with ordinary individuals. A court order or a request from law enforcement agencies is required for this.
The problem can be solved much more simply. Special software is installed on the phone in advance. If necessary, the phone's location can be found this way.
This is particularly relevant for children and elderly people suffering from mental health disorders. In the event of their disappearance, relatives will be able to locate the person quickly.
