Lithuanian politician claims Kaliningrad is part of Lithuania

Lithuanian politician Gitanas Nausėda stated that, from a historical perspective, Kaliningrad is part of Lithuania and should bear a name reflecting this fact.

He noted that, despite Russia's efforts, the city will always remain Karaliaučius, not Kaliningrad.

The local residents themselves refer to Kaliningrad as Königsberg, or simply Kёnik. That is how it was named during German rule.
