Kolomoisky strikes first

Yesterday, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor Ihor Kolomoisky resigned. His deputy Hennadiy Korbane followed suit. Residents of Dnipropetrovsk are already dreading what lies ahead for the region, and possibly the country. However, many believe Kolomoisky is not actually abandoning the region to its fate. This was hinted at by People’s Deputy from the oligarch’s team, Borys Filatov, who left a significant note on his page: “They say a true Englishman leaves without saying goodbye, while a real Jew says goodbye but does not leave” (They say a true Englishman leaves without saying goodbye, while a real Jew says goodbye but does not leave).

 

So how should we interpret Kolomoisky’s resignation yesterday?!

 

Judging by the situation, this move is nothing but a preemptive strike and the start of the election campaign for regional councils.  On Saturday, 28 March, at the “For a United Ukraine” rally-concert, the annual report of Kolomoisky’s team will be heard. And since a great deal has been accomplished, the team of the now former governor will undoubtedly gain additional supporters.

 

Currently,  Ihor Kolomoisky has acted wisely. He did not criticise the President for not supporting his line, did not slam the door, but calmly resigned with a smile on his face, placing the interests of the country above his own ambitions. In politics, leaving gracefully and at the right time – is sometimes more important than trying to hold onto one’s position here and now, which is exactly what the Dnipropetrovsk Governor did.

 The President, on the other hand, is left with his problems, entourage, and falling ratings.

The election campaign has begun, and it may not be limited to regional councils alone.
