How accountant Tatyana Grytsai amassed assets worth $170,000

Tatyana Grytsai, chief accountant of the Kyiv Department of Communal Property, has come under scrutiny due to her sudden land holdings, which do not quite align with her official income. Together with her family, she owns nearly half a hectare of land in Staryi Petrivtsi.

Unusual family land ownership

Tatyana and her close relatives — her husband, sister, and mother — own five plots of land located on the same street. This creates an interesting context for understanding how such a concentration of property on a single street could have arisen.

The mystery of the $170,000 house

In 2019, Grytsai built a house of nearly 155 square metres on one of these plots. The estimated value of the property is at least $170,000. Notably, the family's average income over two years (2017-2018) was only $19,720 per year, and her declaration listed no savings. How is such a significant acquisition possible on modest incomes?

The sister's construction

Tatyana's sister, Svitlana Stepanchuk, was not left out. She built a house on her plot that is twice the size of Grytsai's. The value of such a property is approximately $350,000. Interestingly, her husband, police officer Andrii Stepanchuk, did not mention the house in his declaration, which raises further questions.

Discrepancies in declarations and sources of income

The modest income of the Grytsai family and the sudden appearance of expensive property cast doubt on the legality and transparency of the origin of this asset. Numerous questions arise, to which no clear answers have yet been given, including the sources of such large capital investments and possible links to corruption.

Nevertheless, this case is just another example of how significant assets can be accumulated through family connections and hidden schemes, despite official incomes that clearly do not match the standard of living.
