Greenland wants to be neither with the US nor with Denmark

Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede stated the island's aspiration for independence, emphasising that Greenlanders do not wish to be part of either Denmark or the US. He announced this at a press conference on 10 January, according to the Financial Times.

«Наше желание — быть гренландцами, а не датчанами или американцами» (Our desire is to be Greenlanders, not Danes or Americans), Egede said, expressing the position of the local population.

At the same event, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen commented on Greenland's aspiration for self-determination, calling it "legitimate and understandable". However, she noted that she would prefer to maintain the unity of the Kingdom of Denmark, which includes Denmark itself, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
