Germany resumes border controls

Germany is reintroducing permanent border controls on its borders, which had been abolished following the entry into force of the Schengen Agreement. This decision, adopted by the Bundestag, marks a significant step in the context of the country's changing migration policy. 

According to Deutsche Welle, the new controls will be implemented as part of a broader package of reforms proposed by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) bloc.

Five key points of the new document

The document, approved by the legislative body, consists of five main points, among which the following measures stand out:

1. Permanent border controls: Germany will again establish regular checks on its borders, which will help improve security and prevent illegal migration.

2. Refusal of asylum at the border: Authorities will be given the option to reject asylum applications directly at border control, which will reduce the burden on asylum application systems.

3. Detention of foreign nationals required to leave the country: A system for detaining migrants who are obliged to leave Germany will be introduced to prevent their illegal stay on the state's territory.

 The introduction of permanent controls is considered part of a strategy aimed at strengthening internal security and managing flows of people attempting to enter the country.
