France and UK discuss possibility of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine

According to The Telegraph, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are holding talks on the possible deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

 Such a scenario could become relevant after a potential agreement is reached between Kyiv and Moscow on a cessation of hostilities.

Details of the discussions remain closed to the public. Sources in London emphasise that Starmer has not yet given final consent to UK participation in this initiative. It is known that on the day of the talks, he arrived in Kyiv for personal meetings and consultations.

Possible scenarios for a peacekeeping mission

The Telegraph highlights three likely options for the placement of Western troops as peacekeepers:

1. Freezing the line of contact. In this case, Russia would retain control over the temporarily occupied territories in eastern and southern Ukraine, while peacekeepers would ensure compliance with the ceasefire.
2. Defence of Kyiv. Western forces could be deployed to protect the Ukrainian capital.
3. Creation of an "air shield" in Poland. This option envisages the simultaneous training of Ukrainian military personnel on Ukrainian territory and the organisation of an air defence system to protect the country.

For now, Paris and London are refraining from official statements. However, sources note that both leaders are considering a peacekeeping mission as a potential tool for stabilising the situation in the region after the end of the active phase of the war.
