Europe plans to ban TikTok

The Estonian Foreign Minister has called on Europe to consider banning the Chinese app TikTok, following the example of the US. He stated that user safety and data protection are priority tasks for European Union countries.

The Estonian minister emphasised that the US took measures against TikTok due to the threat of data leaks and the alleged use of the platform to influence public opinion. Restrictions on the use of the app have already been introduced in several states, particularly among civil servants, which the politician considers an important step for protecting national security.

European experts have long discussed the impact of Chinese technology on the security of citizens' personal information. Some EU countries previously expressed concern regarding TikTok, claiming that the platform could collect user data and pass it on to third parties.
