Cybersecurity expert falls for scammers' bait

Even the most experienced specialists are not immune to mistakes — the founder of the Have I Been Pwned service and renowned cybersecurity expert Troy Hunt has fallen victim to a phishing attack.

He received an email allegedly from the Mailchimp platform, warning of a temporary account suspension due to suspicions of spamming. The email suggested clicking a link to resolve the issue.

Fatigue-induced error led to data leak

Due to accumulated fatigue from long flights, Hunt failed to exercise due caution and clicked the fake link. As a result, he inadvertently handed over a database of 16,000 subscribers to the scammers.
