Ethiopia and Eritrea on the brink of war

Against the backdrop of a deteriorating political situation in East Africa, Ethiopia and Eritrea stand on the verge of direct armed confrontation. Military action between the two countries is becoming increasingly likely given current events.

Escalating tensions: military mobilisation and troop deployment

According to Reuters, both countries have intensified their military preparations. Eritrea has declared a general national mobilisation, indicating readiness for a potential war. 

In turn, Ethiopia has also deployed its troops to the border with Eritrea, further heightening the threat of a direct clash. Both sides continue to mass their forces, creating an alarming atmosphere in the region.

Political context and causes of the conflict

The deterioration of relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea is not unexpected, given the long-standing political and territorial disputes between the two countries. 

Although a peace agreement was signed between them in 2018, it failed to ensure stable peace. On the contrary, it merely froze the conflict, and the situation is now once again entering a phase of open confrontation.
