Research has shown that giving up gadgets improves well-being and reduces anxiety

The experiment: who withstood the test?

A group of scientists conducted a study involving 500 participants. The conditions were simple but difficult to adhere to — a complete abstinence from the internet and smartphones. In the end, only 119 participants managed to last more than 10 days without digital devices.

Results: an effect comparable to antidepressants

Those who withstood the test noticed significant changes:

  • improved concentration;
  • normalised sleep;
  • reduced anxiety levels;
  • increased energy;
  • higher physical activity;
  • enhanced face-to-face communication.

Researchers note that the effect of a two-week smartphone abstinence was even stronger than the action of some antidepressants.

Why does the brain need a break from gadgets?

A constant stream of information, notifications, and social media overloads the nervous system. Digital detox allows the brain to "reboot", restoring mental clarity and emotional balance.

Scientists advise regularly scheduling gadget-free periods to maintain psychological health and cognitive functions.
