New services aimed at enhancing user comfort appear on the internet every month. For instance, one such service allows users to determine whether they have a disease based on characteristic symptoms.

To search for a disease, it is sufficient to enter the symptoms into the corresponding field. The system independently cross-references the available information and displays the data on the screen. In doing so, the user does not even need to take exams.

In fact, this is what was previously known as the “third-year student syndrome,” when students diagnosed themselves with new illnesses after every lecture.

Advantages of the system

Virtual disease diagnosis has numerous advantages:

·         Convenience. To determine a possible diagnosis, a person does not even need to get up from the sofa or leave the house. Everything happens online. All that is required is an internet connection.

·         Time savings. To receive a diagnosis, a person does not have to stand in a queue for hours, travel to and from the hospital, etc. The process takes only a few seconds.

·         Money savings. A visit even to a general practitioner almost always incurs financial costs – the cabinet fund, tests, a standard bribe, or as it is commonly referred to, a “tip.” Searching for a diagnosis via the internet is completely free.

However, it is important to understand that a virtual diagnosis may differ significantly from the actual one. It only indicates presumed illnesses.

A person may enter symptoms incorrectly or greatly exaggerate negative sensations. As a result, the picture will be distorted, and the diagnosis will be incorrect.

It is also important to understand that such sites are purely informational in nature and not advisory. If serious symptoms are present, it is important to consult a real doctor who will prescribe tests and appropriate treatment.

One should not let an illness run its course. Otherwise, the cost of treatment will increase significantly. And this is not even the most negative scenario of events.
