Deputy Yuriy Bakalov: fleeing abroad and concealing assets in declaration

Yuriy Bakalov, a deputy from Ovidiopol, Odesa region, left Ukraine in 2023 and has not returned to this day. However, his name has once again come under the spotlight — an audit by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) revealed significant discrepancies in his asset declaration. It emerged that Bakalov "forgot" to declare assets worth approximately 500,000 hryvnias.

What was missing from the declaration

According to the audit results, the deputy failed to declare:
 a residential house owned by his wife, with an area of 186.7 sq. m, in Ovidiopol;
 a land plot under this house, measuring 742 sq. m;
 a BMW 320 car, purchased by his wife in 2023.

Such violations indicate a possible attempt to conceal the family's actual income and assets.

Wife remains in government body, while deputy retains mandate

Notably, Bakalov's wife continues to serve as a member of the executive committee of the Ovidiopol settlement council and even periodically attends its meetings. However, the deputy himself, who left the country, has not yet been stripped of his mandate.
