Czech Republic to restrict temporary protection for Ukrainians after war

Czech Interior Minister Vít Rakušan stated that after the end of the war or the declaration of a ceasefire, Ukrainian citizens will no longer be able to obtain temporary protection status in the country. According to him, this step is necessary to prevent a new wave of migration.

Concerns over mass influx of refugees

Rakušan emphasised that the Czech Republic cannot allow a situation where, after the end of hostilities, Ukrainians, including men wishing to reunite with their families, begin arriving in the country in large numbers. In his view, this issue requires timely resolution to avoid potential overloads of the social support system and infrastructure.

Decision at EU level

The Interior Minister stressed that restrictions on granting temporary protection must be coordinated at the level of the entire European Union. He noted that the problem requires a collective approach, as such measures could affect not only the Czech Republic but also other countries hosting Ukrainian refugees.
