Black boxes of Korean plane were not functioning

On New Year's Eve, a passenger jet crashed in South Korea. The black boxes were expected to shed light on the causes of the disaster. 

However, according to Yonhap News, the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Transport stated that data recording on board the aircraft ceased four minutes before the crash. 

The reasons for the sudden shutdown remain unknown for now.

Investigators reported that air traffic controllers had warned the crew in advance of a potential bird strike hazard. During the flight, the aircraft transmitted a signal indicating birds had entered the engines, after which it attempted an emergency landing. However, the manoeuvre ended in a catastrophe.
