Zelensky calls Russian diesel impact on global prices negligible

President Volodymyr Zelensky questioned the motives behind the agreement between the United States and Russia concerning the supply of diesel fuel. In his view, the actual impact of such exports on global market prices is negligible.

Mathematics versus geopolitics

The head of state emphasised that current volumes of Russian diesel deliveries stand at between 300,000 and 500,000 tonnes per month. For comparison, global consumption of this type of fuel reaches 120 million tonnes. Given these figures, Zelensky believes the impact of Russian exports on price formation can be considered negligible.

«Я не бачу підстав вважати, що російський експорт дизельного палива здатний вплинути на ціни. Адже навіть при поточних обсягах у 300–500 тисяч тонн на місяць на тлі світового споживання в 120 мільйонів тонн цей вплив виглядає нікчемним. Тому, на мою думку, у цих рішень є зовсім інші причини» (I see no grounds to believe that Russian diesel fuel exports are capable of influencing prices. After all, even at current volumes of 300-500 thousand tonnes per month against a backdrop of global consumption of 120 million tonnes, this impact appears negligible. Therefore, in my opinion, these decisions have entirely different reasons), the president stated.

Hidden motives of Washington

Volodymyr Zelensky did not disclose specific details regarding the true motives behind the actions of the American side. He merely emphasised that the decision on such a deal has a different basis, unrelated to fuel prices.
