Collective lawsuit against artificial intelligence developer

The authorities of eight US states have officially filed a lawsuit against technology company OpenAI. The primary objective of the legal initiative is to protect minors and other users from potential harm that, according to the plaintiffs, the popular chatbot ChatGPT may cause.

Allegations of encouraging dangerous behaviour

Iowa Attorney General Bird publicly presented the key arguments of the lawsuit. She emphasised that ChatGPT's algorithms have the ability to push users towards suicidal actions. Furthermore, according to her, the system may generate dangerous medical recommendations capable of leading to overdose, as well as help people cause harm to those around them.

Joint position of several regions

These statements were made during a joint press conference, where the Iowa Attorney General appeared alongside her colleagues from Kansas, Nebraska and West Virginia.

As noted, the lawsuit is aimed at preventing the harm that, according to representatives of the eight states, ChatGPT may cause to children and other users of the service.
